1990s


Coming out of the ashes of his former group The Yummy Fur, which also featured Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and Paul Thomson amongst its many members, John "Jackie" McKeown began his new musical project in January 2006. A really upbeat trio, these Glaswegians rarely run out of energy, with their first album being more punchy than their second, more mellow release. You Made Me Like It, from their debut Cookies, is below.

30 Seconds To Mars

Formed in 1998 in Los Angeles by actor Jared Leto with his brother Shannon, hard rock group 30STM have been through many line up changes and broke through with the single The Kill, from their 2005 album A Beautiful Lie. Capricorn (A Brand New Name), from their more experimental self-titled, can be viewed below.

¡Forward, Russia!


Incredibly intelligent math rock from Leeds, lasting four years between 2004 and 2008 (currently on an indefinite hiatus); their sound is best punctuated by the amazing combination of Tom Woodhead's intricate lyrics and Sam "Whiskas" Nicholls' punching guitars and synths. Eighteen's video is below.
