When the term "white rapper" is mentioned, some people instantly assume that the worst is going to happen. However, Elliot Gleave broke the "white rappers are bad" generalisation... unfortunately only for one album. Said album, What We Made, is an at-times-humourous collection of subjects close to Gleave (such as the previously stated white rapper stereotype) with some of the more serious tracks, such as the title track, whose video was filmed in Chernobyl and is below, still proving effective. However, I was deeply disappointed after witnessing some of the tracks from his latest LP, Won't Go Quietly, as it is a lot more of a  stereotypical dance/hip-hop hybrid than his debut. Get the first album; you won't be disappointed.

Enter Shikari

A rare thing to see these days is a band who self-release all their materIal, ensuring total control over their discography. This is the case for this St. Albans four-piece, who set up the Ambush Reality label in 2006 after a string of non-label EPs and singles. A really powerful group, they're best known for some insane live performances and sometimes emotive tracks (Adieu being the best of these). Sorry You're Not A Winner is below.

Editors

The Birmingham quartet have been repeatedly categorised with New Yorkers Interpol over both groups' identifiable dark post-punk revival sound; whereas the latter lightened up shortly after their debut album, the former waited until their third album to become totally positive. The Back Room and An End Has A Start can be best characterised by lead singer and guitarist Tom Smith's Ian Curtis-esque vocal delivery. Munich, from The Back Room, is below, and is a good example of the band's sound.
