The Grates

Brisbane's funnest three-piece The Grates can be best described as Australia's answer to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with lead vocalist Patience Hodgson frequently jumping around at their shows. The band met at school, and in 2002 they formed and issue their first release: a limited self-titled EP. Follow-up EPs Pyrate Kids, Black Dog Black Dog and Crocodile were released in 2003, before Dew Process signed them up, where they released their first label EP, The Ouch. The Touch., in 2005. This was followed up by a 7" release of Sukkafish, a song from back when they formed, before the first European singles dropped; the mad 19 20 20 and Science Is Golden. Their first album, Gravity Won't Get You High was released in Europe in July 2006, to much critical acclaim. The trio calmed down for their next album, Teeth Lost, Hearts Won, but still kept that characteristic charm and sound. 19 20 20 is below, accompanied by the downloads.
