LCD Soundsystem

Known as one of the more influential pioneers of the dance-punk genre, New York's James Murphy goes under the more well-known name of LCD Soundsystem. Murphy started the project in 2001, and his first single, July 2002's Losing My Edge gained immense critical acclaim, despite its insane 8-minute duration. Three follow-up singles came after: July 2003's Give It Up, January 2003's Yeah and November's Movement. Critics were itching for an album, and it came in January 2004: the self-titled affair was also bundled with the pre-2004 singles, giving the entire album a crazy duration of 1hr 40mins (although the actual LP is only 47 minutes long). The album gained popularity after the success of February's Daft Punk Is Playing At My House, with its infamous video, which charted at #1 on the UK Dance Charts and at #29 in the overall charts. The exposure continued with follow-ups Disco Infiltrator in June and Tribulations in September. A remix album, Introns, was released in March 2006 before the Nike-commissioned the incredulous 46-minute download-only epic 45:33 was released in October (with it being reissued in a physical format in November 2007). The first single from the new album, Sound Of Silver, North American Scum, was released in February 2007, with the album following in March. Post-album singles All My Friends in May, Someone Great in November and final single Time To Get Away in January 2008 were also received well. There was very little promotion for LCD's newest album, This Is Happening, with the only real promotional material being the limited Record Store Day single Pow Pow and the single Drunk Girls, released two weeks before the album was issued on 17th May 2010, but it performed superbly, hitting #10 in the UK album charts. Losing My Edge's video is below, with the downloads as well (the self-titled is on Megaupload).
