New Young Pony Club

Incorrectly categorised by many fans and reviewers alike as "new rave", heavily New Wave-influenced quintet New Young Pony Club formed in 2005 and released two singles, February's Ice Cream and June's The Get Go, on the Tirk Recordings label. This led to the group being signed by the much larger Modular Recordings label, with their first Modular release being March 2006's Get Lucky, followed up by the first full release of Ice Cream in September. A self-titled EP containing all the Ice Cream single tracks was released for the Australian market in January 2007. March saw the first confirmed album material emerge, in the form of The Bomb, released swiftly before Ice Cream was re-issued, hitting #40 on the UK Charts, a week prior to the album Fantastic Playroom on 9th July. The final single with original bassist Igor Volk was the full issue of Get Lucky; Volk would leave shortly after the group had finished their European tour in April 2008, and was replaced by Lee from We Smoke Fags. The band left Modular soon after to form their own label The Numbers, with the first single from the forthcoming album, Chaos, showing a much more darker side to their sound. The sophomore LP, The Optimist, came out a week later on 8th March. Ice Cream's video is below, with downloads afterwards.
