Metric

Toronto four-piece Metric formed originally just as a pair, of vocalist/keyboardist Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw, under the name of Mainstream in 1998. During that summer, they released a self-titled EP, until the duo moved to New York and changed their name to Metric. They released the Static Anonymity EP in 2001 before recording their proposed debut Grow Up And Blow Away; unfortunately, due to staffing changes at the Rykodisc label, it wasn't released until June 2007. Joules Scott-Key and Josh Winstead joined at the end of 2001, and the group released their first album Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? in September 2002, with the only single released from it being the UK-only Combat Baby in December. Three years later, Live It Out was released, gaining a higher profile than their previous album, with the single Monster Hospital becoming popular in the UK upon its release in August 2006. The group's self-released third album Fantasies became even more popular than its predecessor upon its release in April 2009, receiving positive reviews from most publications. Monster Hospital's video is below, as are the downloads.
