Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong

One of the stranger music tales of recent years, 60s rock and roll wannabes Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong formed in January 2007 and reportedly, after a very small number of gigs, eight record labels were wanting to sign the group. Before the group signed to the Vertigo label, they released their infectiously catchy debut single, Lucio Starts Fires, on the well-respect Young And Lost Club label in October of that year. The group's first proper single, Lonely Buoy, released in March 2008 had good media reception, and the follow-up Where Do You Go? in June also had a very good impact on the band, with the single just missing the Top 40, peaking at #43. From this, though, the band pretty much collapsed. On 22nd July 2008, with the main release of Lucio Starts Fires to be issued on the 28th of the month, and the self-titled album to come out on 4th August, the band stopped production of the album and cancelled the single, as it didn't properly reflect their sound. However, promotional copies had been sent out to the music media, and so this was the only physical copy available, with some going for as much as £65 on eBay. The group returned to the studio after this debacle, but the only track to be released from these sessions is One Woman, which is available to stream on the band's MySpace, but the lack of updates, and with drummer James Craig joining One Night Only, suggest that the group are either on a hiatus, or more than likely, disbanded. Lucio Starts Fires' video is below, with downloads following.
