Hot Club De Paris

Fun Liverpudlian trio Hot Club De Paris are becoming fast known for their odd style of soft math rock, or to put it simply, math pop. Formed in 2004, the two brothers of guitarist Matthew Cameron and drummer Alasdair met lead vocalist and bassist Paul Rafferty when he was serving drinks at Aintree racecourse. From this, the group signed to the brilliant label of Moshi Moshi Records, where they first released their debut single, the characteristically long-winded title of Sometimesitsbetternottostickbitsofeachotherineachotherforeachother in July 2006, which was followed by the shorter Everyeveryeverything on 2nd October. The three-piece's debut album, Drop It 'Til It Pops, was released the week after, with the third single from the album, Shipwreck, released in January 2007, is so far the only "proper" single, i.e. on 2x 7" and CD, although a very limited remix white-label 7" was released shortly after, featuring remixes from Jamie T and Lo-Fi-Fnk, the latter also on the MMR label. The album's final single, Clockwork Toy, was released in June 2007, and to round off the year, a 300-only 7" featuring non-album track Will You Still Be In Love With Me Next Year? and a cover of The Clash's Straight To Hell was released on Christmas Eve. 2008 saw the release of new single Hey! Housebrick in May, with the second album Live At Dead Lake being released in June (limited edition versions had a Dead Lounge Acoustic EP included), with My Little Haunting being the second and last single from the album, released in September. HCDP stayed relatively quiet in 2009, until they released a double set of EPs in 2010: the incredibly long-titled With Days Like This As Cheap As Chewing Gum, Why Would Anyone Want To Work? in February, and the shorter-but-still-quite-long The Rise And Inevitable Fall Of The High School Suicide Cluster Band in May, with both releases straying into more experimental, non-math rock territory; the former EP featuring the six-minute slow burner of a closer Extra Time, Sudden Death.
